TATA Pixel Project Details.

Back in 2011, while working at Drive CGI, we were approach by TATA to create a video showing their latest concept car. The video was to demonstrate the TATA Pixel zero point turning. Originally the client wanted to show a working vehicle at the Motor Show but for health and safety reason wasn’t able to do so. They decided to use a video to show their innovative technology.

I was in charge of the all project, from quoting to delivery.

We first started with a storyboard. This was to lock all cameras before going on set. This was a big time saver when it came to setup the camera on location. We didn’t deviate much from the storyboard. We use a location scout to find somewhere in London. I did originally look for private location but this wasn’t cost effective and the client wanted a city street.

The idea was to show all human interaction with an actress filmed on green screen then integrated on a CG car and environment. This choice was made as there was no working interior existing for the Pixel. We filmed the actress interacting with a simple green painted rig. The actress used a tablet which would control various elements in the car.

For the next step we filmed a working concept car in the streets of London, showing the zero point turn. We booked two streets in London over two days. we had to block the view at each sides of the road to avoid anyone seeing the concept car which was highly confidential at the time. So the security was tight and we had to block traffic a few time as some shots required to show the complete  street.

For the production, I worked with UBER London. UBER provided the producers, filming crew, music writer, motion graphics and editing.
